My Sister, Nicole Vienneau, Has Gone Missing in Syria|
I'd see if you can't get something who knows arabic to try looking through some of the local newspapers. I'll start doing this shortly, in my free time, and see what I can dig up. Do you know where she was supposed to have been travelling, I might be able to some relatives/contacts in the area working on it. I am gonna assume Mossad/the IDF has some pretty good sway in at least southern syria.

We don't know her exact itinerary, but we do know she was using the Lonely Planet Middle East guide. Based on that, I'm presuming she went from Damascus up to Hama and then on to Aleppo. There is a chance she also visited Palmyra, it would depend on what other travellers told her about how amazing it was, and how easy it was to get to.
Should would have likely hit all the big tourist sites, such as Crac Des Chevaliers, but mostly as day trips because there isn't any place to stay there. It's possible she went to Lattakia as there are a few sites and a beach where Westerners would feel comfortable, but I don't think it's likely.
We're asking anyone who speaks Arabic to go through local papers, just as you've suggested. Any news or incidents that might relate would be greatly appreciated.
