Many more women go missing in Canada and the US.

Correct, many more women do go missing in Canada and the US, and when it happens, there is much more press, especially if a young woman between 18-35 goes missing. Currently, there is very little Canadian press and no US press that doesn't come from the wires on this situation.
From what I understand, Syria is actually quite a peaceful place and although there may be some things that are more "underground", for the most part, it is unheard of that a young woman would just go missing in the middle of the morning in the fashion of what has happened here.
Also, just in case: if you've never been to Syria, is it fair to say it is "Savage"? :)
