I am the original "anonymous" poster. I guess I was confused by the different hotel logs. The one you linked is the one I'm referring to, but if, as someone stated, the Citadel was the hotel in Palmiya (sp?) that she checked out of, I still don't understand why they didn't note her departure in the appropriate column. I also looked at the Cairo hotel log book, and the excerpt included didn't include her arrival ... however, you noted that there seemed to be initial confusion surrounding the exact details of when she was last sighted, and I was wondering whether these had been addressed to your satisfaction. Was there a journal entry for the 29th or 30th? Did she write these daily? I must admit I find it odd that the guy at the Cairo had her stuff for that long and did not contact the Canadian Embassy to report that she had not checked out, or been seen. I'm not really familiar with all of the specifics, so I apologize if I'm muddying the waters!
Speaking of confusion - it appears I got a bit confused by my own blog!
You are correct, that is the Citadel Hotel, not the Cairo. We've only published translated Cairo lists at this point.
An additional twist to Nicole's trip is that we can't identify where she stayed for her two final nights in Palmyra. The Citadel claims she was there only two nights, but her journal doesn't indicate any shift to a new hotel. We have presumed she stayed there but they didn't report it for some reason (avoid taxes?)
If, as you point out, there is no departure date, then that helps justify that she never left, they just didn't keep good records. Hopefully it doesn't mean that she left without paying - that's definitely not her style.
